Richard Irving is one of the UK’s leading otologists, a specialist in the study of conditions of the ear, hearing and balance.
Richard was appointed Consultant ENT Surgeon at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth and Children’s Hospitals in 1997. He offers specialist expertise in all aspects of ear disease, medically and surgically, in both adults and children.

1985 - 1995
Training
- Richard was trained in London and Cambridge where he undertook pioneering research into the molecular genetics of tumours involving nerve tissue. His research led to the award of an MD
1995
JLO Fellowship
- Richard was awarded a JLO fellowship to the Universitatspital in Zurich and a TWJ fellowship to the Causse Ear Clinic in France. Richard won the intercollegiate gold medal for the best performance in that diet of the FRCS(ORL-HNS) examination
1997 - present
Consultant ENT Surgeon
- Following the completion of his higher surgical training, Richard was appointed Clinical Instructor at the University of California in San Francisco.
- Richard is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth and Children’s Hospitals.
